We'd like to extend our warmest seasons greetings to all of our patients, staff, colleagues and the public. We hope everyone has a safe, warm and joyous holiday. This year has been like no other, and we're very thankful for the support we've received from our communities as we battle COVID-19 together. Please remember to protect yourselves and your family — find government advice highlighted below about the rules surrounding the Tier 3 restrictions implemented in Northumberland, and the regulations surrounding Christmas bubbles so you can celebrate with others this festive period.
We're still here for you this winter — our pharmacies will be open through the majority of December, and Central Pharmacy is open on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, with reduced opening times, to ensure you continue to have access to frontline services whenever you need them. Our services continue to operate as normal across our pharmacy sites, so don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you need any further assistance.
As always, we're here for you this Christmas. Our pharmacies remain open for the majority of December, with only closures on essential days, so our staff have time to rest and spend Christmas with their families.
Central Pharmacy, our extended hours pharmacy, is open on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day too, with reduced opening hours.
Our 24-hour prescription collection services at our Wellway Morpeth site will be accessible throughout the festive period — including Christmas Day and other days when we are closed. Please note no items will be dispensed or added to this service on days when the pharmacy is closed, so please still ensure you order your medication in plenty of time.
At our Wellway Pharmacy Morpeth site, you can benefit from increased flexibility when collecting your medicines. Join our 24-hour prescription collection service today, and you can collect your prescriptions when it suits you — even on days when we're closed during the festive period, such as on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.
Please note items will not be dispensed or added to the service during days on which the pharmacy is closed.
Changes to service: Wellway Morpeth Now Open 28th December
Wellway Pharmacy Morpeth has now been instructed by NHS England and NHS Improvement to open on Monday 28th December. The pharmacy will be open between the hours of 14:00 and 16:00 to assist patients in the community.
As always, please ensure you leave enough time for your repeat medication to be prescribed, sourced, and dispensed — at least three working days from the point of ordering to being collected. Earlier ordering allows for us to streamline our services and ensure provision for everyone who needs it, reducing wait times — this is especially important in the current circumstances, where we may have smaller staffing teams and where supply issues may become more prevalent.
Although we are open for the majority of December, many GP practices and pharmacies will have limited opening hours between Christmas and New Year. (Please see our opening times above).
The NHS 111 service receives hundreds of calls every Christmas from patients who have run out of medication, which puts additional pressure on already busy urgent care and out of hours NHS services.
Stay at Home National Lockdown restrictions came into force on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at midnight, for the whole of England. The devolved administrations of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have taken similar steps.
Our pharmacy remains open as usual, with strict social distancing measures in place to help protect patients and staff. Please remember to wear a face covering, and social distance.

On 2nd December 2020, the MHRA conducted its first approval for emergency use with the Pfizer-led COVID-19 vaccine. Community pharmacy awaits further guidance from DHSC and NHS England and NHS Improvement as to how we will assist in the rollout of this programme. We do not anticipate any of our other services to be affected by this at this time. Please do not contact us at this stage with any queries regarding COVID-19 immunisation.
On Wednesday 30th December 2020, the MHRA approved the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine for widespread use after rigorous testing. The vaccine is both safe, and effective. This vaccine is due to be rolled out commencing on the 4th December.
For Valens Medical Group patients, please visit www.valens.medical.co.uk for more information about their vaccination programme, operating from the Lintonville Medical Group site. Please don't contact the surgery yourself, you will be contacted when it is your time to be vaccinated.
