Prescription Processing Times
Thank you for supporting your local, independent community pharmacies

As your local, independent community pharmacy provider, we would like to thank all of our patients for their continued support and understanding over what has been a challenging year and a half for the NHS and for primary care.

Delays in accessing your prescribed medicines are something we never like to see  and we work hard to ensure wherever possible this does not happen.

We are unfortunately seeing increases in delays for preparing and fulfilling some repeat prescriptions  due to a number of factors out of our control. A key factor increasing waiting times currently is a large workload on GP practices, meaning they are sometimes unable to process prescription requests as quickly as previously. This delay can then be further exacerbated by supply issues, and potential acute staffing shortages due to self-isolation requirements at our pharmacy sites.

Whilst we understand some are currently finding it difficult to get in contact with GP Practices, our community pharmacies are not affiliated in any way with any GP Surgery, and therefore we are unable to assist in the ordering/chasing up of prescriptions still being processed, or in managing appointments at your surgery.

Please Order Repeat Medicines in Plenty of Time

Help us help you.

The simplest thing we can ask for you to do, wherever possible, is to order your repeat medicines in plenty of time, which will help account for any delays the processing may encounter. Thank you for your support.

Generally, you are able to, and should, order your repeat medicines seven days before you run out, to ensure time for processing and fulfilling.

Delays in GPs processing prescription requests

Due to high demand on GP (General Practice) services, and staffing shortages at GP Practices themselves, the processing of prescription requests for repeat medicines is, in some cases, taking longer.

At minimum, two working days' notice should be given to your GP Surgery to process your request, and then an additional 24 hours for our pharmacies to prepare these items for your collection. Unfortunately, due to these delays, this process can take even longer.

We politely ask for your appreciation and understanding of these issues, and that these are circumstances outside of our pharmacies' control  we are not affiliated with any GP Surgeries or their processes.

Whilst we understand some are currently finding it difficult to get in contact with GP Practices, our community pharmacies are not affiliated in any way with any GP Surgery, and therefore we are unable to assist in the ordering/chasing up of prescriptions still being processed, or in managing appointments at your surgery.

Nationwide and Localised Supply Issues

We have also recently been experiencing delays in orders for stock from our pharmaceutical wholesale partners. This has been due to a number of reasons, such as manufacturing issues with medicines, self-isolation requirements on delivery drivers, the recent hot weather, and also due to the nationwide supply issues caused by a lack of heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers.

We are working closely with our partners to minimise disruption to our patients. We will always work closely with patients to resolve any long-term supply issues with them, and source suitable alternative medicines if required. Thank you for your continued understanding in relation to these matters which are out of our hands.

Zero Tolerance of Abuse

We understand how inconvenient and distressing delays in accessing your prescriptions can be. Our staff teams work hard every day to ensure these delays are minimised wherever possible, and that we can continue to care for our patients in our friendly, professional and efficient way.

Unfortunately there have been some incidences of abuse being directed towards our staff, for delays which are out of their, and our, control. We operate a zero abuse policy (both physical and verbal) towards any member of our team. Anyone found in breach of this policy may have to find alternative pharmacy care.
