Frequently Asked Questions.

Why get a Flu Vaccination?

Flu can be serious, especially for older adults, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself, reduce your risk of serious illness, and help prevent spreading flu to others.

Flu can also ruin plans! Don’t let the virus get in the way of what you’re up to this Winter. Booking a Private Flu Vaccination can provide peace of mind – whether it’s a holiday, meeting up with friends, or the festive period you’re looking forward to.

The types of flu virus in circulation change each year, so it’s recommended to get your jab annually. The vaccine is updated each season to help protect against the strains expected to spread.

Who can get a Private Flu Vaccination?

We can provide vaccinations to anyone who:

  • Is aged between 18 to 64 years
  • Is not otherwise eligible for an NHS Flu Vaccination (we can provide these too – find out more here).
  • Would like the added benefit of protection against the Flu this Winter.

We look forward to taking care of you. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Who can get an NHS Flu Vaccination?

Those eligible for NHS Flu Vaccination in 2026-2027 include:

  • People aged 65 or over (or aged 64 and turning 65 by 31 March 2026)
  • Pregnant Women
  • People aged 18 or over with certain long-term health conditions (e.g. diabetes, heart disease, respiratory conditions)
  • Frontline health or social care workers
  • People living in a residential or care home
  • Carers who look after someone at risk from flu
  • People aged 18 or over and living with someone with a weakened immune system
  • Children aged 2-3 years
  • School-aged children:
    • Primary School: Reception to Year 6
    • Secondary School: Years 7 to Year 11

We provide NHS and COVID-19 Vaccinations every year for those eligible. View our NHS Vaccination services below:

What’s the difference between an NHS and Private Flu Vaccination?

The NHS offers free flu vaccines to people who meet certain eligibility criteria. If you’re not eligible, you can still protect yourself by booking a private flu vaccination at your local pharmacies in Morpeth, Pegswood and Ashington.

We may use slightly different Flu Vaccine types than those that are available through the NHS Service – due to age criteria and vaccine availability – but be reassured they’re still safe and effective at preventing Influenza. We’ll discuss the vaccines we use at your appointment.

When is the best time to get vaccinated?

Our Flu Vaccination Service typically runs from September to March each year.

Generally, we recommend getting vaccinated earlier on in the season, although recent advice from the Immunisation committee recommends October as the best time for most age groups.

Bookings are open now for appointments from 5th September 2026. Before this time, you can register your interest and we’ll pop you a message or give you a call to get you booked in.

Is the Flu Vaccination safe?

Flu Vaccines have been used for decades safely, and effectively, to prevent serious illness from Influenza.

Mild side effects such as a sore arm or slight temperature may occur and usually pass quickly. Serious side effects are rare, and risk factors such as allergy to certain ingredients are always screened for at every appointment, ensuring your safety. Our staff are trained to manage reactions to vaccines, and are always on hand to support you with any questions you may have.
