The essentials of sharps safety

Immediate Disposal: Always place used needles, syringes, and lancets into an approved sharps bin immediately after use.
The Right Container: Only use official sharps bins; never use household containers.
Keep Secure: Keep the bin secure between uses and ensure it is kept out of reach of children and pets.
The ‘Full’ Line: Stop using the bin once it reaches the “do not fill above this line” mark (usually three-quarters full). Return it to us for disposal.

We can only accept small (1L) sharps bins for disposal at our pharmacies.

We’re unable to accept larger boxes due to health and safety and licensing requirements. NHS centres (such as Morpeth NHS Centre), and local hospitals can usually accept larger boxes; but check ahead before travelling.

How it works

Sharps cannot be disposed of in your regular household waste or recycling bins. You can bring small boxes to us for safe disposal.

1. Bring your small (1L) sharps boxes to us.

2. We’ll take a few details from you.

3. We can supply a new sharps box if needed.
